En \u00e9l se refleja con crudeza y exactitud toda la miseria, el abandono y la malnutrici\u00f3n que soportaban por aquellos tiempos las clases populares y menesterosas de la sociedad sevillana. A eso que vemos hace referencia, de forma compendiada, el contenido de este libro. Insalubridad: un mozalbete sucio y ti\u00f1oso que est\u00e1 intentando quitarse los par\u00e1sitos que invaden su cuerpo y su deprimente vestimenta en una estancia igualmente inmunda y t\u00e9trica. Desamparo: en el ambiente y en la persona impera la indigencia; el ni\u00f1o, solitario y tal vez hu\u00e9rfano, sin calzado y ha-rapiento, est\u00e1 sentado en el l\u00f3brego suelo y apoyado en una pared desconchada; no hay enseres en el aposento ni en la ventana; por el contrario, se destaca la presencia primorosa del c\u00e1ntaro, motivo t\u00f3pico de la pintura de la \u00e9poca, pero tambi\u00e9n s\u00edmbolo de la escasez que hab\u00eda de agua buena y del humilde oficio de aguador. Hambre: cascarilla y alguna fruta es toda la comida que se muestra, representaci\u00f3n id\u00f3nea de la subalimentaci\u00f3n que padec\u00eda la poblaci\u00f3n sencilla, v\u00edctima una y otra vez de las repetidas crisis de subsistencia que tan asiduamente provocaban penuria frumentaria, carest\u00eda e inanici\u00f3n.
