The
national network CaRed is formed by 14 Spanish
laboratories, belonging to different universities and
research centers, whose research topics include
carotenoids. The network aims to promote the
cooperative use of infrastructures, synergistic
interactions, and the exchange, dissemination,
communication and generation of knowledge in the field
of carotenoids. Among its objectives are to increase
the competitiveness of the agri-food and cosmetic
industry at national and European level, as well as to
promote the well-being of citizens through the
development of high quality functional foods, and to
establish nutritional recommendations to improve
health, contributing to reduce the costs associated
with serious diseases. The existence of this network
has allowed the promotion of numerous actions,
including courses, meetings and congresses, which have
contributed to the integration and visibility of the
research on carotenoids carried out in Spain.
